Purple cabbage fried vadas are south Indian snack. It’s extremely flavorful and nice idea to add cabbage in your toddler’s food.
Kids loves fried food and so is my daughter. She is no exception to the kids who hate cabbage. That puts me In search of recipes in which I can hide veggies. And there comes this vada recipe…..our regular south Indian udad dal vadas with cabbage.
Cabbage goes very well with the taste of udad lentils .Here I used purple cabbage which gives nice shade of colour to your vadas.Colours attract kids and vadas becomes super hit.In addition Purple cabbage has a relatively high ratio of nutrients and vitamins .
Black gram lentils/udad dal soaked overnight 1 cup
Finely chopped purple or green cabbage 1 cup
Green chills finely chopped 2
Coriander leaves chopped 1 tbsp
Ginger grated 1 tsp
Curry leaves chopped 1tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Pinch of asafetida/hing
Salt as per taste
Oil for deep frying
1. Grind soaked udad dal in blender to make smooth paste.
2. Mix chopped cabbage and other spices in the batter and keep it aside for 20 mins.
3. Heat oil in frying pan and pour spoonful of batter in oil. Add 4-5 vadas in every batch and fry them to the golden brown.
4. Drain the excess oil of vadas on tissue paper and serve hot with tomato sauce or green chutney.
